In this short article (published recently in NL Fiscaal, a well known Dutch tax magazine) we reflect on how easy people are taken in by myths.

In this case it was the wide spread and naief belief that 2015 would be the start of a new beginning for the world: Paris climate conference, BEPS, Addis Ababa Development conference etc. We refer to the impressive contribution by Adam Tooze and his comments on the US’ shocking denouncement of the SDGs in 2025. It is not not all gloom and doom: we also mention IMF Gita Gopinath’s statements that there is a big tax potential to reap by developing countries. That will take investing in tax capacity building. Ie, the area in which TKB is fully engaged.
